"Arion Award" and "Minao Shibata Award"


- What are "Arion Award" and "Minao Shibata Award"?

Arion Award recognizes and promotes the activities of young musicians. The recipients of the award's prize money are newcomers to the field (performers, composers, or academics; individuals or groups) whose activity demonstrates great promise for the future.
The goal of the Minao Shibata Award is to raise music criticism in the future by recompensing competent writers.

This year's Arion Award has been assigned to the percussion instrument section.

- Selection process

Arion Award (bi-annual; performers, composers, directors of all genres)

  Minao Shibata Award (every year)
Jury members nominate candidates, among which the decision will be made. Therefore there is no public appeal for participation.
  Candidates have to hand in 3 critics on two selected concerts of the Tokyo Summer Festival, and one editorial comment on music.
