Fumiko Nomura (Arion Award 2007)

Originally from Kyoto, Fumiko Nomura studied percussion at Doshisha Women’s College of Liberal Arts. In 1993 she won the First Prize at the 10th Japanese Percussion Competition. Moving to Germany in 1996 she enrols at the University of Arts of Berlin. While pursuing her curriculum she becomes an orchestra member of the State Theatre of Hessen, Wiesbaden, as well as the Rhineland Philharmonic Koblenz. In 1999 she joins the 225 year old National Theatre Mannheim as a timpani player and is being remarked as the first female timpani player in German history.
