<Argentine Tango& Chamamé>
Raúl Barboza: Prayer of Guaranis

Date: July 14(Mon) 7:00pm
Venue: Hamarikyu Asahi Concert Hall [ > map]
Ticket: S: ¥5,000 A: ¥4,000

Raúl Barboza's solo concert. He plays three instruments: chromatic accordion, diatonic accordion and guitar. Barboza, in whom flows the blood of the Guarani tribe of South America, weaves a story of nature and life.

Piazzolla said " Barboza is a fighter. He merits my esteem and admiration".
Along with the tango, which had its beginnings in Buenos Aires, the "chamamé" is another popular form of dance music found in Argentina. The chamamé is spirited and frolicking music, at times making one feel quite sentimental, and is played on the accordion and bandoneon.
If it was Piazzolla who revolutionized the modern tango from the traditional Argentine tango music, then Barboza can be said to be the father of chamamé as a form of art, which he elevated from its beginnings as simply dance music to being a work of concert quality.
Barboza has roots in the Guarani, an indigenous race spread out over parts of northeast Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. The Guarani lifestyle is to live in harmony with Nature.
