Native African religions came to Brazil along with the slave trade. Candomblé is the unique result of the mixing of those religions with European Catholicism, forced upon them as slaves. Mônica Millet, grandniece of traditional priestess Menininha, in her first appearance in Japan, together with Grupo Asè do Brasil. The rhythmical beat they produce inspired Latin Pops!

The worship of the saints in European Catholicism and the African folk religion's worship of nature mix to form the unique Afro-Brazilian religious ritual "Candomblé". The music of Candomblé has not only been passed down through the generations as a purely ceremonial music form, but is also deeply engrained in the popular afro-centric music of modern Brazil as well. With a variety of drums as its base, the priest's and congregation's chorus and dancing are the entirety of this very simple music form which has a sweet and gently inebriating from-the-earth power of its own. Take the opportunity to learn of the roots of modern Afro-Brazilian music which has swept the world in popularity.
