Maddy Prior, the Queen of English "trad folk", with The Carnival Band, presenting new and fascinating material.
Maddy Prior has represented the "trad" singers of England as the vocalist for "Steeleye Span", a trad group which, along with "Pentangle" and "Fairport Convention", is acclaimed as one of the "three great trad bands" in the country. Joining "The Carnival Band" in the late eighties to become "Maddy Prior and The Carnival Band", the group enjoyed enormous popularity with its unique sound derived from various early music of Europe. Their sound, with its nostalgic and old-fashioned air, consists of some highly aggressive arrangements, and is not quite "trad" nor is it "folk". With the reunion of "Steeleye Span", their popularity has even become hotter. For this performance Maddy sings her best repertoire of Protestant hymns which form an important part of England's musical heritage.
